Why is my website not appearing in Google?

This is one of the most repeated questions asked by all those who have problems with the web positioningWhy doesn't my website appear in Google?.

Having a page published does not mean that it will appear in the SERP, much less in the SERP. position in the first search results.

In fact, in most cases, the website is visible, but it is simply not ready to be positioned or to compete with other sites that have been working on their visibility for a long time.

Reasons why a website does not rank on Google

Technical problems affecting positioning

In many cases, the problem lies not in what meets the eye, but in the how the website is built inside.

There are pages that, although they are published and look correct, not well prepared for Google to crawl or understand them easily. This may cause them not to appear in the results or to appear in very low positions.

This is where technical aspects that are key for the web positioning. For example, a misconfiguration of the robots.txt file may be blocking Google's access to certain parts of the website. There may also be problems with canonicals tags, which help indicate which page is the main page when there is similar content.

Other times the problem lies in more basic elements such as the meta titles and descriptions, or in a heading structure (H1, H2, H3) that is not well organized and makes it difficult for search engines to read the content.

Also loading speed or certain indexing errors can directly affect visibility.

When this type of aspects are not well worked, it is very difficult to positioning a website on Google, The technical base is not helping the rest of the elements.

Content that does not help positioning

Another very common reason is in the content.

Many web sites have text, but not necessarily content that helps to position yourself in Google. They are generic texts, little differentiated or even very similar to those of other pages in the sector.

In some cases, this occurs because the content has been created without a prior strategic basis, without take into account how users search or what kind of words they actually use.

This is where a key point in SEO comes into play: the keyword search. It's not just about writing about a service, it's about understanding how people search for it.

For example, it is not the same to work on a general search such as “positioning in Google” as it is to work on a general search such as "positioning in Google". more concrete or specific terms (long tail), such as “how to position a website” or “how to appear as a company on the Internet”.

These types of searches tend to be easier to position and, in addition, they attract most interested users.

When this approach is not worked on, the content ends up being too generic and Google does not have enough signals to know to which searches it should show the website.

A website that is not designed for the user

There is also a factor that is often overlooked: the way in which the user interacts with the web.

If a page is confusing, not well understood or the user does not find what they are looking for in a few seconds, they are very likely to abandon.

This has a direct influence on the positioning, because the search engine interprets these signals as a quality indicator.

So, when we talk about how to appear in Google, we are not only talking about content or technique, but also about user experience.

Competitors are already working on their positioning

Another important point is to understand the context. You are not competing alone.

When a company tries to improve its visibility, it does so in an environment where others have already been working on their SEO for some time.

This means that, even if a website is well designed, it may not be enough if others have more content, more authority or have been in existence for longer optimizing your strategy.

Positioning is always relative: Google compares options and decides which ones to show.

So, how do you really rank in Google?

At this point, the answer to the question of how to appear in Google does not involve a single concrete action.

Web positioning depends on several factors that have to work together: the technical side, the content and the way users interact with the web.

When a web site does not appear, it is usually not due to a single error, but to the sum of several small problems.

In practice, this translates into reviewing five key areas:

  • TrackingMake sure that Google can access your website correctly, without blockages in files such as robots.txt and with a structure that allows to discover all the important pages.
  • IndexingCheck that your pages are in the sitemap and that Google can access them correctly. It is also key to configure the canonicals well to avoid duplicate content in products, categories or similar URLs. For this, you can help yourself with tools such as Google Search Console, where you can see which pages are indexed and detect possible errors.
  • Contentsoptimize your texts to respond to real user searches, based on good keyword research, including main and long tail terms.
  • AuthorityReinforce the relevance of your website within your industry with updated content and link building strategies.
  • UsabilityImprove the user experience by revising the loading speed, navigation and responsive design.

In many cases, work well on these five points is what makes the difference between a website that is simply online and a website that actually ranks on Google.

Therefore, when the goal is to improve visibility and attract customers on an ongoing basis, it is often necessary to to have SEO specialists to analyze the whole, prioritize actions and define a strategy adapted to each business.
